Summary and Suggestions

 Summary and Suggestions

I. Purposes of practicum

The practicum system provides a good chance to students to combine theory with practice. The students are able to acquire vital skills, gain work experience in their area of interest, and create important networks by working in professional environments. Through taking up a practicum, us students are also able to evaluate if their ambitions in terms of career are realistic in the given industry enabling them to make viable choices in the future.

II. Procedures of practicum

A practicum has students placed in the field of interest with support, instruction, and duties pertinent to the course of study. Throughout the duration of the practicum, students are invited to record their activities, obtain appraisals, and contemplate what they have learned. In order to complete the practicum successfully, students need to observe basic rules such as professionalism, proper interaction, and management of time. Adhering to these methodological procedures presents students an opportunity to obtain useful practical skills and put the knowledge learned into practice through experience.

OBSERVE:
Gretchen and I commenced by watching how the students associated with their teachers. We sought to comprehend their interaction patterns and figure out how to handle such situations were we to take up the instructor's mantle.

GROUP OBSERVATION:

In addition, we undertook group observations in order to evaluate the possible responses of students to the presence of several observers.

LESSON PLANNING:

Now that we have an idea on the way how these students learn and interact with each other, we can adjust our lesson plans to fit them better by providing activities such as experiential learning, hands-on work, and engaging games. Using several approaches to maximize learning is the key to maximize the positive outcome, flexibility is what we need when teaching foreign students.

*I Already attached my Lesson Plans*

DEMO TEACHING:

Start with introducing yourself and have interaction with the students while teaching. When I teach, I usually have a short laboratory to cohere and expound the ideas of my students on the lessons I deliver.

EVALUATION:

Before class we have to provide evaluation sheets and lesson plans on our practicum teacher. The teacher will then evaluate your teaching methodology and professionalism.

III. Outcomes of practicum

Internship and Practicum experience provides multiple advantages to students such as better practical skills, more self-esteem, higher chances of getting a job, a deeper insight into the area of interest, career development and advancement, education, and self-improvement. As a result of practicing what they learned in class, students are able to acquire relevant experience, learn important skills and reach an educated decision regarding their career paths.

IV. The challenges of practicum

For learners, practicum experiences can come with certain frustrations including, but not limited to, unrealistic expectations, lack of direction, managing one’s time, cultural diversity, shortage of options,  and most of all is language barriers. Overcoming those obstacles entails employing various means of communication, problem-solving skills, flexibility, and assistance from any of the superiors, teachers, or other buddies. By taking measures to minimize such problems, students will be able to utilize all the effective ways of learning in the course and make the practicum beneficial.
Additionally, I frequently used hand gestures and non verbal communication to help my students grasp the lesson. These nonverbal expressions of language give meaning to the interplay of ideas, images, and emotions that helps in teaching and learning process.

V. Overall impression

It was a great journey for me to be able to teach in Future School. I had a great time, it was my first time handling such great students with much respect towards their teachers. The environment, in most cases, encourages a sense of community where students are able to engage and learn different things from one another.

VI. Suggestions for future improvement

CULTURAL DIFFERENCES:
Cultural differences can lead to misunderstandings, communication breakdowns, stereotyping, conflict, and difficulty adapting.

Suggestions:
Promoting cross cultural interaction and conflict resolution are the key activities of individuals and communities. Maybe we could have discussions with superiors instructing us on their cutural beliefs so that we could have additional ideas on their cutures.Tackling these challenges, we can create a more peaceful and cohesive society.

LANGUAGE DIFFERENCES:

Language barrier can affect the process of teaching and learning in a number of ways, such as  ineffective communication, lower levels of student participation, restricted learning space, cross-cultural conflicts, and lower self-worth of students among others. To meet these challenges, it takes several strategies to help students along and ensure that an inclusive classroom is maintained.

Suggestions:
I submit that in order to develop good English speaking skills, children should be introduced to English language training at an early age. Furthermore, I recommend enforcing the use of English only once a week in order to help the students’ vocabulary and speaking capabilities. In this way, the students will be engaged in an English speaking environment all the time which will go a long way in improving their speech and even fluency.

Teaching Practice

 TEACHING PRACTICE

I. Procedures of teaching

Teaching in a future school would require serious preparation, classroom management, and also show a sense of cultural sensitivity. This would begin with preliminary research on the nature of Vietnamese culture upon arriving, and accommodation arrangements. Perfect teaching in the classroom requires good planning of lessons, maintaining records of students' assessments, and keeping abreast of the Vietnamese customs. We teachers must tailor our teaching styles accordingly will be able to teach their students in an ideal setting of learning.

II. Time management and organizing activities

During my teachings in future school, I really need to narrow down my lessons in order to finish my lesson within the alloted time. With this, I frequenly use interactive activities and experiments to let the students grasp the concepts of our topic. In terms of organizing activities, it`s really not that hard considering the school provides several teaching aids to maximize teaching and learning process.

It was a great moment and experience for me to teach this kind of amazing students in Vietnam. 😊

III. Classroom management

The students at Future School in Vietnam were very much disiplined and have a lots of respects in their teachers. From greetings to asking questions respectfully, from obidience to participations, I was impressed by how these students gained so much respect which makes my heart overwhelmed.

IV. The Students in Future School

The students in future school will always have a place in my heart, I will never forget the way they respect me and how they were interested in my topics, it shows on how they participate and interact with me. I will miss them even if we have a very ample amount of time to interact. I will always remember 7G and 6D to be my greatest students. It`s sad that I have to leave them, but I promised them that I will be back for them.

My SEA Teacher Exchange Student Experience - The Start of My Journey

Welcome to my Blog!

If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be magnificent. But that's just one side of the coin. Let me tell you a bit more about who I am.
I am John Christian B. Artuz from Iloilo Science and Technology University Miagao Campus and this is my journey when I was appoint participant of the SEA teachers student exchange program of SEAMEO. I`m the only child and become independent in such young age which makes this journey a rough and peak hill to climb.

With the help of my university, families and friends I was able to pursue this opportunity.
Now let me start my journey!

It was Sunday night when we arrived at Iloilo International Airport, the feeling of anxiety and excitement rushes through my vien as I take my step towards the airport.

Then so it goes, we arrived in Manila with a joyful and exciting feeling. Together with my friends we planned several activities when we arrived in Vietnam. We also meet other outbound student from different universities which makes our stay there memorable and we have quite a blast.
We`ve waited for about 3 - 4 hours for our flight to Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

We arrived around 8:00AM in the morning and waited for our buddies to pick us up. While waiting we take a short trip for pictures, take a nap and have a short conversation to build our friendship.

Around 1:00PM our buddies arrived, we were approached with a heartwarming greetings. We gathered all together and taken a picture.

We ride through the university bus but with a series of unfortunate event, the bus was broken down several times. We even pushed the bus all together that shows the unity of us Filipino to find a solution to a problem. It as really unexpected but with that event, we build bond and have fun.

We arrived to Dong Thap University in Cao Lanh with a feeling of exhaustion but our hearts was filled with Joy.
